I really appreciated how the book focused not only on the romance between Alex and Poppy but also their long-standing friendship, and how they both need each other in so many different ways. The flashbacks to all the different summers showed their dynamic so well, and I loved the banter.

Vacation seemed like the perfect time to finally, FINALLY, read People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry. Alas, it didn't quite live up to my hopes 😬 I didn't dislike it, but it definitely didn't hit me as hard as Beach Read. The romance is cute, and I love a slow burn friends-to-lovers, but I just didn't care for Poppy which was obviously an issue. If you can't root for your romance heroine, what's the point? She's not the absolute worst, but I found her to be selfish and impulsive in a way that didn't make me especially want her to get her happy ending 🤷🏼♀️ ah well, it was still a cute, quick read if not my absolute favourite.

I generally don’t like romance novels. But this one was different. It had character. And heart. And humor. I felt for Alex and Poppy. I rooted for them. I could relate to and understand their trepidation of falling head-over-heals in love with someone. It’s was a mystery and a thriller. A slow burn and a page turner. I’m so glad I read it.

My favourite Emily Henry read yet.
I just loved You and Me on Vacation. At first, I didn't feel particularly attached to Poppy as a protagonist, but her dynamic with Alex really developed her as a character.
Obviously the romance and chemistry was great. But for me what made this book super great was all the relatable complexities surrounding the relationship. Poppy's love/hate relationship with her hometown felt incredibly relatable - I think it will have for thousands of readers who don't necessarily dislike the place the grew up, but can't detach the location from the memories of teenage loneliness and angst.
Poppy's description of bullying and abuse from peers at school felt very genuine in a way that not many writers get right. Emily Henry didn't lean on cliches, and instead painted a very relatable picture of Poppy's almost obsessive need to have moved away from her hometown and 'make something' of herself, if anything just to spite those who bullied and teased her. Moving home, even to be with her best friend and partner feels like giving up that opportunity to feel like someone - something her hometown and shitty time at high school never let her feel.
LOVED IT.
I also really loved Alex as a character. He had all the makings of my favourite male character: awkward but leans on a 10/10 sense of humour and is an absolute snack. Perfection.
All this intertwined with a plot structure jumping in-between different summers alongside vivid descriptions of gorgeous travel spots made for a great read. SO excited to start Book Lovers soon!

It is a nice light read! I like the characters and the dynamic between them. It was funny and a little sad at times.
I would have liked delving deeper into the characters themselves but it might make the book more serious. Also, the begining was a bit slow but it picks up the pace.
