✨no spoilers :)

This was a really good book. I started it a while ago and then quit it but more bc of me than the book. I loved beach read so i had high hopes for this one, and Emily Henry moooosty held up.

This book was such a cute romance. I ADORED Alex he was the epitome of me loll and not only could i relate to his problems, i felt like he was a very well developed character. Actually both of them were, i just personally didn’t like poppy’s personality very much. Which says something about Emily Henry’s writing bc she still got 4 stars from me ahaha.

This book was a little slow, and it took SOO long to get into the romance part. The tension was really nice and well written (tho friends to lovers isn’t my fav troupe) but i feel like in general Henry isn’t the best at writing the romance scenes. It wasn’t a fade to black, but maybe it should’ve been…? I just wanted more time with them together, and it seemed a little rushed until the end.

I liked the “plot twist”… it wasn’t really tho. Like i guessed what happened in Croatia wayyy before they mentioned it, but it was still enjoyable to read. Although in some of the vacation parts i was just begging for them to get back to modern day. The issues at the end were really realistic though, and it makes sense that they would struggle with them before deciding to get together. Also the title of the book makes a lot more sense at the end haha so that was a lovely pull together.

And can i just say, Henry’s writing is SOO funny. She can ofc get serious and really sentimental on some topics, but she also has the wittiest quotes. Scroll down for some of my favs.

Overall it was a really pleasant read, and I love Emily’s take on relationships in general, friendships and romantic, even if smutty scenes aren’t her forte lmao. Not the full 5 stars for a guessable plot and poppy’s very chaotic character that was sometimes loveable sometimes annoying. But would definitely still recommend.

“and it’s normal, so natural to push up on my tiptoes and wrap my arms around his waist, burrow my face into his chest, and breathe him in. cedar, musk, lime. there is no greater creature of habit than alex nilsen.”

“I’m single too, Alex. I’m a card-carrying member of the Unsolicited Dick Pic Support Group. Doesn’t mean I’m running to get back with one of my exes.”
