People We Meet on Vacation was a slightly unexpected breath of fresh air!

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Emily Henry’s first book, Beach Read, and I had heard that most people prefer that to People We Meet on Vacation, but I had an amazing time with this book!

I loved Poppy and Alex’s relationship, how it progressed, and the work they did on themselves to grow both separately and together. I also loved all the characters places they visited, and the structure of the book. I do wish there had been more time given to them as an actual couple, but otherwise I really enjoyed it!

People We Meet on Vacation exceeded my expectations. 4.75 stars.

I think a lot of the drama was concentrated in one segment and that wasn't great for me. I didn't like some of the uncertainty in the relationship. I knew what would happen ultimately, but getting there was a little too difficult for my preference. Other than that, I enjoyed the writing style and the chemistry between the romantic leads. I find friends-to-lovers to be hit or miss, and it's hard to make the chemistry work in a way where you believe they're good as friends AND good as lovers. I think this book struck a good balance and successfully showed not only that they're good friends but also that they have undeniable romantic chemistry. I will say, the character whose POV this book is written from, Poppy, feels a little too close to a lead in a straight-to-TV romcom, but Emily Henry makes it work.

People We Meet on Vacation may be the perfect heterosexual romance novel. Poppy and Alex are very loveable characters. This book is a quintessential friends to lovers story but Henry does it so well! Poppy and Alex's strong friendship is developed in a very realistic way that perfectly creates a slow burn love story. Honestly, my only complaint would be that the burn was almost too slow. I liked Poppy and Alex so much that I got frustrated waiting for them to just kiss already.

This was an incredibly readable and compelling contemporary romance. During a stressful week, I appreciated joining Poppy and Alex on multiple vacays for a reading day of much-needed escape.
