Wow. Just… wow. This was by far the most powerful, heartbreaking and well written book I’ve read in ages.

I jumped into this book completely blind, it looked like a sports romance but I was pleasantly surprised by the gut wrenching story I was in for instead. Kennedy Ryan is a new author to me but I cannot wait to read the rest of this series and the other books I have by her already on my physical tbr.

Iris is the strongest FMC I’ve ever read, and her story was so horrifically yet so beautifully written.

PLEASE read TW before reading! (I don’t have any TW which is why I don’t do this) Without reading the blurb, this book looks like any normal sports romance by its cover, but it is not. This books main focus is domestic violence and has extremely triggering instances throughout the entirety of the book consisting of heavily detailed SA and physical abuse by the FMC’s husband (not the MMC).

That being said, I loved this book and am so grateful for Kennedy for writing this story. It needed to be told. 🖤

Read trigger warnings!! Incredibly graphic DV and r*** scenes. I barely made it through. The writing is beautiful and the character development well done.

🌶️🌶️🌶️ holy shit. I was not mentally prepared for the turmoil of this book. It’s great, don’t get me wrong, but it’s TOUGH. The content warning was NOT enough, it should have explicitly stated there was actual scenes of rape and domestic abuse. Definitely could have been triggering to some readers. My pool heart goes out to all survivors 💔

Wow, this was a tough, but good book. Kennedy Ryan’s writing is amazing at making you experience what the characters are feeling, both good and bad.

Let’s start off with the good feelings. I absolutely love August West! He was basically exactly what Iris needed exactly when she needed him. They were perfect together, once they were given their chance. I love how the ending talked about soulmates, because they are two characters that make me believe in that idea too. I also loved Iris, especially her character growth in the wake of the suffering she endured.

While this book has a lot of triggering content, I think Kennedy Ryan handled it very well. She brought to life the cruelty in this world, but also offered hope in the wake of that cruelty.

This solidifies my belief that Kennedy Ryan has a real talent for writing love stories that are truly devastating (and I mean that as a compliment). Her books evoke such powerful emotion; they’re always memorable. Her characters (especially the women she writes) are nuanced, and read like real people with real flaws, but most importantly, with deep wells of strength.

This one is no different. Be gentle with yourself and do not read this book if you are triggered by graphic depictions of domestic violence, physical, and/or sexual abuse. There are multiple instance of r*pe on page.
