Wow! Just….wow!
The SIXTEENTH book in the Kim Stone series, you’d think by now that the characters and stories might begin to be a bit stale, but nothing could be further from the truth. Angela Marsons has done it again, keeping me hooked from the Prologue right until the very end.
This book sees Kim and the team investigating a fire at a family home that ends up being a bit more sinister upon further investigation.
Kim’s past also comes back to haunt her, when she encounters a dangerous psychopath that is out for revenge.

I would like to thank Angela Marsons, the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

HAPPY BELATED PUB DAY TO THE BANGER THAT INTRODUCED ME TO MY FAVE SERIES

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. IYKYK, my reviews are always honest.

Writing: 4/5 | Plot: 4/5 | Ending: 4/5

Full disclaimer: I have never read a book in this series, and despite this being the SIXTEENTH installment, jumping in blind did not impact my ability to understand the characters and ongoing storylines.

THE PLOT

Kim Stone and her team are back in action on a grizzly family murder-suicide. Simultaneously, Kim is being hunted by Symes, an unhinged maniac determined to kill her. Ooh la la.

MY OPINION

Maybe it's a solid police procedural, maybe it's "book goggles" from the last dud I read, maybe it's Maybelline. Either way, I enjoyed this book. It was well-written, fast-paced, funny, and well-plotted. I find that police procedurals written by women never let me down. They're always well-rounded and have thought-out characters. They don't try too hard to emulate a John Wick type of vibe like male authored police procedurals. And often they have more diversity and inclusion in their cast instead of relying heavily on stereotypes like disgruntled, functioning alcoholic detective and women who are little more than sex dolls.

Yes, Kim had the maturity of a 5-year-old and swears like a sailor, but it was done in a way that doesn't come across as annoying. I can't really explain it. But I just felt like it was light-hearted and she was self-aware. Idk. I can't word properly right now LOL.

Anyways. The pace kept me blazing through this one. Short chapters, rotating POVs of the entire team, and TWO juicy j cases. I'm fascinated by familicide (I know, I know) so this was really scratching my itch if you know what I mean.

If you're looking for a quick, solid af police procedural with likable characters, this is the one. I'll def be picking up more of the Kim Stone series.

PROS AND CONS

Pros: juicy j plot, great cast of characters with their own personalities, well-paced, funny

Cons: idk I guess you could find Kim's behaviour a little annoyingly immature sometimes. And I think Symes' POV used "bitch" one too many times (and I'm not adverse to swearing)

Six Graves by Angela Marsons is the sixteenth book in the D.I. Kim Stone series. While you can read Six Graves as a standalone, I believe it is best to read this series in order. It will allow you to get to know the characters, their backstories, and their relationships. This series contains realistic, complex characters. Detective Inspector Kim Stone has had a rough life. She does not let people get close to her. Her best friend is her dog, Barney. Kim may be rough around the edges, but she cares for her team. She is also dedicated to her job. Of course, this dedication has led to an escaped killer (Symes) trying to get ahold of her and end her. Six Graves is well-written with fast pacing. I like that the chapters are short. There are chapters from the killer’s point-of-view. He is a nasty piece of work. While trying to avoid the killer, Kim and her team are busy with a new case. In order to keep working, Kim’s boss insists that she have a bodyguard and it is the last person Kim would like to follow her every move. I had to laugh at some of the lines between Kim and Leanne. Those two are so much alike (probably why they do not get along). The mystery is well-plotted and complex. I was surprised that I was able to solve this one (I loved the challenge). Angela Marsons gives us multifaceted mysteries that are challenging, dark, and twisty. Be prepared to stay up late to finish this suspenseful tale. I do want to warn readers that there is detailed violence and foul language. Six Graves is full of twists that will have you quickly turning the pages to discover how it ends. I cannot wait for the next book in this gripping series. Six Graves is a twisty tale with an escaped slayer, unsolicited shadow, a troublesome team dynamic, a curious crime, and one determined detective.

At the scene of a house fire DI Kim discovers that all four members of the family have been shot dead in an apparent murder-suicide case but something doesn’t look right meanwhile Symes, a psychopath she previously caught has escaped prison and is out for revenge.

Six Graves the 16th book in the DI Kim Stone series by author Angela Marsons. This is a really outstanding series and this one continues along the same lines, an exciting well written, tightly plotted, intense thriller with well -developed , gritty characters that kept me hooked to the end. Cannot wait for the next one !

I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

I started these books late and have some older ones to read but I love an investigation style novel. These are brilliant.

This book is gripping right from the start. I really enjoy the connection between this and previous books in the series. When I started reading these I didn't realise there were so many previous books but I didn't feel lost at any point.

I think they can be read as standalone but you miss out on certain connections. I really enjoy a good detective series and this one doesn't disappoint, I plan to read all of the books I have missed so far.

Kim Stone's most recent case involves a family that seemingly dies in a house fire, but it is soon discovered that they had all been shot in what appears to be a murder/suicide. Once that theory is ruled out, a myriad of suspects comes to light, including a twin brother and sister who weren't present at the crime scene, the twin sister's husband, and a strange neighbor, who seems to have an unhealthy connection to one of the victims. While investigating this latest case, Kim is put in protective custody when one of her old enemies escapes from jail and vows to kill her.

As usual, Angela Marsons gives her all in this 16th installment of the DI Kim Stone series. She drops us right into the middle of the story at a funeral that hints at the death of an important character.
Six Graves is difficult to put down as Kim Stone is once again put through the ringer in order to solve her most recent case. Revelations of dissension in the ranks of her squad is brought to light along with the emotions that Kim keeps locked away regarding the imminent death of her mother. This most recent case has all of the procedural elements that are a part of this series along with many twists and turns as the team tackles the most recent case. Overall, Six Graves is another outstanding addition to the DI Kim Stone series.

Not my favorite of the series. I loved the growth of the characters, the team building exercise in the beginning is just epic. But the resolution didn't go anywhere.
The killer was easy to figure out - though I enjoyed the progress.
