I can’t trust this overall rating. This is an extremely addictive read. The post war village was a great base for this book and fitted the Highlands isolated setting. The more this book goes on, the more this small community turn on their own. The mistrust, suspicion and fear all built because of manipulative, calculating, dangerous fae. The fae that you really don’t want to get involved with!

Bizarrely a comfort read that you just get sucked into and have to see how it ends, and well I had tears at the end.

This is a historical fantasy that takes place in Scotland and includes the Fae. It is a very slow book. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. It is more character centric than plot centric with themes of greif, class struggle, family and friendships. However, for me as much as I wanted to love this book, it was a difficult read. I felt there was A LOT of repetition in description of the interactions with the Fae. Many of the descriptors were used multiple times and I felt as if I was reading the same interaction over and over again. If you love character studies with very slow pacing, this book may be for you.
