A cute story that I actually ended up enjoying quite a bit.

Quick simple, wouldn't say it was laugh out loud funny but it was still a nice read.

Its easy to get into, her and her mum are moving to a chateau that her dad bought before he died. Her mum wants her to stay there and renovate it but she knows she doesn't have the money to because who has the money to renovate a chateau!?

Its a nice read. I liked reading it. Nate was pretty cool, a little annoying in places but still liked his character.

I would be very happy reading this sitting on a beach rather than my sofa at the moment.

Very very superficial and formulaic story. The characters are not boring, but neither interesting nor deep. Not awful, but nothing good or memorable either.

This book is a bit of romantic escapism mixed in with wish fulfilment. It had a number of tropes that I feel are overused, particularly the “she doesn’t know she’s beautiful” and the “let’s keep secrets and then wonder why things blow up in our face”. It was a quick and easy read because there wasn’t too much plot development and the romance was rather jolty - sometimes it went slow and it was cute but then it bolted forward like 10 paces in the depth of the feelings that I was getting a bit of whiplash.

I’ve read this type of book before so to really enjoy it I’m looking for that extra piece of oomph and unfortunately this book didn’t have it. I fully expect that this book would appeal to some readers and that they would have a blast reading it - unfortunately it felt a bit superficial to me and I didn’t really connect with too many characters.

The mum character was a bit of a bitch and I didn’t really like reading her. She came across as really selfish and all of her “good deeds” had an ulterior motive and if she had simply been honest with her daughter from the beginning then we wouldn’t have found ourself in half as much trouble as we did towards the end, but I guess that is how drama gets plotted out.

Nate and Flick were okay as main characters, they didn’t really seem like anything more than cardboard cutouts for the scenes - but they were cardboard cutouts made out of nice cardboard instead of the flimsy cardboard. I’ve read worse MC’s and worse LI’s so I didn’t particularly mind following them along for the duration of the book.

2/5 - someone else will like it, but that someone won’t be me.

This book was ok. It's described as being laugh out loud funny but I didn't find it funny. The story was ok but I did think it dragged at times and weak in places. It could have been much better.

I have to start by saying what a cover crush I have on this book. It is simply gorgeous and so eye catching. It’s certainly one that jumps out and shouts ‘READ ME’. So of course that’s exactly what I did.

You have to love a story which is set somewhere as fabulous as France, especially when it’s rural France of which is very much brought to life. Something else I love is a great renovation project. I love watching television shows where you see the transformations as they are happening. I fell head over heels with the chateau and had so many images in my head through all the fabulous descriptions. I loved the whole idea of someone leaving a loved one a chateau, so if anyone wants to leave me one, well just so you know, I’d be up for it.

There is a great cast of characters in this novel of which I pretty much adored them all. They have their strengths and all bring something unique to the table. Flick and Nate had to be my favourites though. Both trying to move on with their lives though they both have issues holding them back. You can see the spark from them meeting and I loved seeing that grow and the will they won’t they theme of whether they will get together or not. It makes for a highly entertaining read that I literally could not get enough of.

The French Escape is the perfect feel good read. It transports you to an idyllic setting that I didn’t want to leave. A fabulously fun and uplifting read. Loved it.

My thanks to NetGalley and Bombshell Books for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

You know when you get something perfect for that moment? All cute and eye catchy that just calls you to grab it and hide it in the closet from everyone and read and read until you finish it? And just when you open the covers you get swayed by the story too! That was the case with me when I've got this book... I stayed late in the night until I finished it and almost overslept for work. Setting, storyline, characters...everything is magnifique!
