I feel like the odd man out because I didn't like Peter Pan. I've seen several film adaptations (including the play with Mary Martin) but wanted to read the source material. In a way, I'm glad I read it even if I didn't like it. Peter is a selfish bully who never grows up physically or emotionally. He treats other people like garbage who only serve his own selfish purposes. He shows no remorse over any of his actions regardless of how badly others were hurt. I was hoping for some redemption at the end of the story but there was nothing. I couldn't believe how Wendy at the end of the novel ! I always want some sort of character arc and was severely disappointed. Yes, I did read a short synopsis about the author himself and why he wrote this story. It made me feel more sympathetic to the author but not the novel.
Spoiler
let her own daughter go off with Peter Pan knowing full well that Peter couldn't even be trusted to remember that his companions exist
this was pretty dark
darker than i expected actually

This did not age well... at all. I actually skimmed the last ~40 pages because I had completely lost interest halfway through. That's right, I had to skim a children's fairy tale because it bored me so much.
This book is wildly racist, which is to be expected from the period in which it was written, but it's still mad racist bro.
Five stars for Peter Pan, who is at least as cocky as I.

i read peter and wendy countless times as a child and it never gets old
Summary: Short punchy adventure story for kids and adults who want to remember what it was like to be a kid.
Things I liked:
* Perspective: I really loved the way he was able to really nail the way some kids look at the world (or at least it reminded me of how I used to see the world when I was a kid).
* The narrators voice. The charming English professor style reminded me of books like Narnia and The Once and Future King.
* The dark undertones: I definitely felt the author trying to share a few things outside of a kids adventure story, it made me glad to be reading a book versus watching a movie.
Things I didn't like:
* The perspective changed quite a bit quite quickly (made it a little hard to follow sometimes).
* Some of the characters felt a little boxed up. You got given a character portrait versus the opportunity to find out about the character from their words and actions (made it a little bit more like a comic book or a fairy tale then a novel.
Highlight:. I remember about two pages into the book I had a great tingly feeling that made me already glad I was reading a book versus watching a disney movie.

The end with Wendy and her daughter. The cumulation of the novel made me sad and happy. I think sticking to the character of Pan versus taking the easy option of having everyone live happily ever after was bold and effective choice. I loved the bitter-sweet feeling it left me with.
