I don't even know where to start with this review. I'm going to keep this quite short since I do plan on filming a booktalk for my booktube channel
edit:
my booktalk is up on my Youtube channel. part 1: https://youtu.be/OBFxg0aznsU & part 2: https://youtu.be/Y7oKbcw9jic

some general thoughts:
I found the plot of the book quite intriguing but a bit slow at times. Fortunately I didn't mind this as much because I did enjoy the characters and their interactions a lot.
I really liked most of the characters. Some of them (Julian, Mark) I absolutely loved. And even the ones I didn't quite like in the beginning (Cristina) I warmed up to by the end of the book.
As for ships: I AM SO CONFLICTED. I basically ship everything and everyone.
There were quite a few plot twists in this, that I did not expect at all. A lot of other things were predictable - but being a reader of Cassies's books for several years now, you get the jist of her stories and characters; there is a certain pattern she follows with most things.

As for a certain scene in about the middle of the book or a bit after, I don't quite remember, I am incredibly annoyed and angered about that one scene. With Julian and Emma. If you've read the book you'll probably know what scene I mean. I will discuss it further in my booktalk before I start ranting about it here. But I will say I didn't like it at all and I even had to stop reading after that because I was so angry.

I think that's all I have to say for now.

I genuinely feel emotionally ill after reading this. I just don’t even know what to say.

The ending (which I should’ve seen coming

Ok this new generation of Shadowhunters is amazing.
I loved seeing old characters and seeing a different path of the new generation.
But fucking hell the ending made me jump out of my bed and almost screaming "BITCHHHH" at 1:30am.
As usually, Cassandra Clare does amazing things

I don't care if she's writing this series to squeeze money out of my pockets! She can have it! Anything Clare writes about the Shadowhunter world I will happily read...as long as there is a Jace or Will! Love the Herondale's!!

I found some lines of this book incredibly cringey - I suppose I may have appreciated it more if I had read it back when it came out, but perhaps not. It took me until the last 200 pages to really get into it, but the blackthorn family (especially Ty's character!) kept me interested enough to keep reading. The very end of the book (especially Kit) has made me want to pick up book 2 eventually!
