Lauren— you did us dirty with this one. I’m going to need time to recover. I’ll send my therapy bill.

This book ripped my heart open. Despite knowing the outcome, this book did not fail to make me bawl. It was so nice to see Adena's perspective and more about her life and character. The romance between Adena and Makato was perfect. The story is fast-paced, I managed to finish this in a day. I absolutely loved this novella.
“You make even the stars envious. Because one day—far from now—you will be up there beside them, outshining every single one.”
WHERE DO I START with this book? 5 ⭐️ I absolutely loved Powerless, so I knew I had to read this one. And maybe it was just me, but I didn’t much care for Adena’s character in the first book. Don’t get me wrong, I liked her as Pae’s friend, but that’s really all she was to me. But in THIS book? The relationship between Adena and Mak was so beautiful. The back-and-forth, the way they cared about each other, to see what Adena had been up to when Pae was in the Trials and to know she had somebody. It was all an entirely beautiful story wrapped up in less than 250 pages.
And I’m not afraid to say I completely bawled at the last twenty-or-so pages of this book. I knew what was coming and yet I still cried anyway
