This works really well as a graphic novel. Emily Carroll deftly brings Melinda to life, and Anderson breathes new life into her work. Plus, David interpreted as a man of color really adds an interesting racial tendion between him and Mr. Neck that is uncomfortably relevant. Obviously, this is a frank look at PTSD from sexual violence, so read when you are in a good place to fo so.

Wow, this was a fantastic graphic novel, heavy but uplifting. Emily Carroll's art style is perfect. The sort of story that will be with you for days after you're done.

Presenting this story through visual format added a lot to the weight of the protagonist's emotions. Seeing her trauma (internally) over just reading it was a great vehicle for empathy. I haven't consumed Speak in it's other formats, but I was moved enough by this one to want to go consume them now, too. I'd be interested to see how the narrative transfers.

Anyone could benefit from reading this story, but it's especially important for teens to read. There are so many tidbits one can relate to; to help you understand yourself, and how the pain of others can manifest.

Touching art and story. This is the first graphic novel I have ever read. It made me tear up at the end. It’s powerful.

The art is great, but I just didn’t click with the story. It is best suited for teenagers. Lacking as a standalone, might have liked the novel better.
