This adaptation was stunning. The artwork was phenomenal. I actually found this more impactful than the novel itself, which is a first for me.

I felt so, so sad. I hope the best for her. Also really related with her home story and the way she copes with things.
The drawings are beautiful!

I still love this book but I like the depth of the novel over a graphic novel. With that said, the images in the graphic novel are riveting and spot on.

Intense subject, lovely illustrations, but disjointed plot line. Maybe that was intentional? An important conversation to have but the story could have had more resolution or purpose.

Maybe more like 3.5 stars?
As promised, the graphic novel is extremely similar to the regular book... except shorter and a bit more modern. I adore Emily Carroll’s art style and I highly recommend her other book. The creepier the scenes were (and the farther into this book) the better the art became, and I really adored that. However, the regular print book captures way more of Melinda’s personality and the fact that she’s actually super funny... and we definitely miss that in graphic novel version. I’m glad I picked it up though!

It hurt a lot to read but it helped as much as it hurt

3⭐️ This is a graphic novel version of the book Speak and this is my first time reading this story. I really liked the art and the way this was visualized to tell the story.

Really good! I haven't read the novel so I came into this without any expectations and I think it was really well done. The art style is great but I knew before reading that I would enjoy it because Emily Carroll can do no wrong in my eyes. Good for teen/ya readers especially. It's made me interested to real the novel now and compare them both.
