I lived the novel Speak when I read it years ago and this new graphic novel version is just as good. The images made the story come to life. The rape scene was very well done in a way that you knew what was happening but it did not explicitly show it. And the part where she finally finds her voice—I had chills!

The illustrations were beautiful. I LOVED seeing the images paired up with the quotes. The visuals accompanying her feelings were hard to stomach sometimes, but they were so impactful. Kudos to the artist. I really liked the style. I think it paired up with the story very well.
The one thing I didn’t like were the transitions. Besides the tabs on the upper left corner, each part would end and the next part would start abruptly so it would be hard to follow sometimes.
Despite that though, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole graphic Novel. If i focus on one thing, it would without a doubt be the illustrations. Phenomenal.
