I honestly really enjoyed everything about this graphic novel. The illustrations were amazing, the story was truely heartbreaking and sadly something that happens. This book was truely sad, but eye opening. I think everyone should give this a read. And if you are staying silent, don’t, you are not alone.

I borrowed this book from the library not knowing what to expect but it didn’t disappoint. And also someone who had previously read the same book before me had left a sticky note at the end of the book. Which really touched me and hopefully will help someone in the future. So thankyou to that person who left that sticky note.

The sticky note said:
‘You are not alone. Full responsibility lies with the perpetrator. You are not to blame. There is help available and you are worthy of receiving it.’

I hope that note impacts somebody who needs it. A truely captivating and sad story, that was beautifully written and illustrated.

The graphic novel really brought this heartbreaking story to life. I wasn't so sure how it was going to turn out but Laurie and Emily did a wonderful job.

3.5 stars

I didn't read the original book but I thought this was fairly good. Its a weighty subject to discuss in a graphic novel but I felt the art did a good job conveying the pain and anxiety the character was going through. I might've preferred the novel though to get more background info since this seemed to skim the surface.

I've never read Speak - the novel by Laurie Halse Anderson, but I've always planned to. So when the graphic novel version came out, I picked it up. A quick read and it was still able to convey a lot of emotion. A good read.

This book is always tough for me as a sexual assault survivor but it is so needed. The graphics drive the story home.
