4.5 stars! What a classic dystopian book. I read this in middle school & decided to read it again as an adult, and finished it in a day. This book encapsulates so many human emotions & describes life well. This book really had me thinking about the meaning of life. Although, the ending has so much ambiguity which is frustrating but also leaves room for imagination.

I didn't like the ending. It allows for good class discussions, but for casual reading it is just frustrating.

The Giver was a simple, intriguing story about the costs and benefits of choice, joy, love, and feelings.
This is a middle-grade book, so it was written in a simpler style than I am used to reading, but was a worth-while read nevertheless. I was in need of a lighter-hearted, simpler book after finishing "The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo," which was heavy, complex, and morally gray.
From the beginning, The Giver hooked me, and I finished the book in under 24 hours and immediately purchased the rest of the series.
Again, the writing style was very simple and lacked the depth and imagery I love in young adult and adult novels, but was well done!
