A nice little mystery is the best way to describe this book. Annie's husband, Max, has been accused of murder, but she knows that he couldn't have done it. So she decides to find out what really happened and track down the actual murderer. At first the case seems pretty bad, all evidence points to Max and the little bits that could point in another direction can be easily explained away. As Annie rounds up all their friends to help investigate you are introduced to a tight knit and interesting group that seem willing to do just about anything for each other.

As wonderful as the characters were, I had a bit of a hard time really getting into the story. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something just seemed a bit off. It kept me entertained enough to give the next one a try and see how it goes.

I didn't really like this because it was so obvious who the murderer was. It couldn't be Kyle because he had no money, and Vanessa wouldn't have wasted her time with him. It couldn't have been Sam, because he wasn't rich and didn't care for money. Everyone knew his wife had all the money.. The only logical explanation was Dodd, he had the illusion of money, but really his wife held the purse strings. His wife wouldn't have stood for him having an affair and he would have lost everything. I also hate how they don't explain why she chose to drug Max. What story did Dodd cook up to get her to do this thing?

Max, Annie Darling's husband, takes on a case when a beautiful woman asks him to find her brother. Suddenly, Max finds himself arrested for the murder of the woman.

Annie and her friends spring into action to prove Max' innocence and unmask the identity of a calculating killer.

The reader knows Max must be found innocent, as this upbeat series would not work if Max went to prison for life. The usual characters are present as Annie's friends and the plot devices work. It was a quick read; good for a summer mystery.

This book had a 4 star plot set up and a 2 star ending. There were a few unanswered plot holes and a couple things essential to the plot that never made sense to me. The Whodunnit part didn’t wow me.

I’ve also seen a shift in the last few books of this series. Gone are the maps of the island that used to be given when characters were pooling evidence. And several characters have fallen off the radar when they were once prevalent in the stories. Other characters have taken a larger role and I don’t really like them as much.

This is the first Carolyn Hart Death On Demand book I've read. I had to get used to her style of writing (the first few chapters can be confusing if you're not expecting it...seemingly random glimpses into the lives and actions of seemingly random people), but once I did, I really enjoyed it (and the rest of the books in the series).

Hack writing: every character is an overly exaggerated, hammed-up type and every scene is a parody of melodrama. Murderer is obvious very early.
