Absolutely delightful. This story was deliciously satisfying and I am quite glad to have read it. Following along as Lady Catherine tried to get her husband to stop being so proper in all aspects of married life was excellent, even if at times I found myself as frustrated as Catherine when Joseph would pull away and apologize for actions that were not very gentlemanly. My only criticism is that this story is only 60 pages and I would have very much enjoyed a great deal more. So I can say that I am eagerly awaiting the second story, to be released December 1st.

Ahh, the good ol' tale of the man being to respectful while the lady just wants to get railed. Sorry for the crudeness.

Written in a diary style narrated by Catherine Bexley.

Catherine is new to marriage, and at that time this means being a virgin. Her husband, much older (but that's besides the point) is the epitome of being too gentlemanly, he performs his marriage bed duties, getting off but leaving poor ol' Catherine wanting more. She even questions that maybe women aren't meant to have an orgasm and is meant to feel this longing. (thank god that's not true).

Anyways, at a party Catherine stumbles upon a very illicit act that involves spanking and the not so respectful treatment that her hubby has been given her. She isn't scared away, she in fact is turned on by this act and now finds it to be her mission to get her husband to perform what she saw.

She tries to seduce him, and he being the gentlemen (aka prude in my books) doesn't get it. She also feels she can't straight up and ask him, as that would be very unlady like. Being a 19 year old, newly married she isn't aware of the protocol of it either. And surely you have to be respectful to whatever your husband wants!

Finally, the poor girl gets what she wants! (sorry for the spoiler) But it was a happy day.

I enjoyed this one. I couldn't help but feel bad for women back in the day. I'm sure this happened all too much. The women was there just to take the man and sire a child. No desire. No satisfaction. Just being used.

Again, its a novella so it is a quick and easy read, but the author does a good job bringing you in. There are no cliffhangers, no unanswered questions but good ol' historical fiction erotica. I do recommend these if you want a short little entertaining read. They aren't going to make you all hot and antsy mind you.

Sometimes, all you want in a book is something to transport you away from your day-to-day life and engross you in another world. Although that sounds like a simple achievement, it’s not always easy to accomplish. The Secret Diary of Lady Catherine Bexley does this very well – it gathers you up in a rustle of skirts and deposits you into her Regency world.

From the very start, the reader has the complete trust of Lady Catherine Bexley, newly married and already frustrated. Why frustrated you ask? Catherine (I think we can go by first name terms here as she is so frank in her diary) expects more from the marriage bed and she’s not getting it from her husband. Aha, one of those stories you might be thinking, arrow hovering over the X button. But wait – while the book is candidly about sex in an upper class lady, it’s never dirty or seedy. Lady Bexley retains her grace while describing her urges and her plots to get her husband to notice her as a woman. Does she succeed or does she turn to someone else? It’s a fast novella, so you can easily read this in one sitting and find out her fate.

The focus of this book is predominantly on the Bexleys and their intimate relationship, so there’s not a great deal of setting. It’s important to remember that you are reading Catherine’s diary, where she reveals more about herself than to any human. This is an excellent plot device in my opinion for breaking through the social restrictions at the time and revealing that women, no matter the setting, have similar issues. The historical setting also allows for a bit of a naughty feel, that the reader is going behind closed doors. It’s a fun, sexy romp with plenty of action, perfect for those wanting to have a dip into a steamy historical world.
