This is a must-read for anybody working in organisations - especially if you are trying to improve them. So far „Systems Thinking“ was only a buzzword to me - used for example in the Scaled Agile Framework SAFe. This book adds much needed detail.
I loved the explanation of the basics using concrete examples and simple models: Flows, Stocks and Feedback Loops - both balancing and reinforcing. Building on this the collection of system traps (tragedy of the commons, drift to low performance, escalation, success to the successful, …) were easy to relate to.
The core of the book for me was the list of places to intervene and especially there order; from least to most effective:
12. Numbers
11. Buffers
10. Stock-and-Flow Structures
9. Delays
8. Balancing Feedback Loops
7. Reinforcing Feedback Loops
6. Information Flows
5. Rules
4. Self-Organization
3. Goals
2. Paradigms
1. Transcending Paradigms
Thanks a lot for sharing!

Meadows' book describes to the layperson, in an eloquent way, why systems thinking is an important lens with which to view the important problems of our day. This is an important book.
Did I ever mention that I am obsessed with complexity science? Ever since I got introduced to it in first year of uni, I wanted to learn more. It is just such a neat way to dissect the world and look at it. One that makes much more sense than reductionist approaches (trying to explain things through rigid formulas or breaking it down in ways that do not make sense).
This book is a great introduction to the major concepts of complexity and systems thinking (basically the same thing). Highly recommend it to anyone who lacks words for the complicated ideas they have about this world. I am sure much of this is intuitive, but reading about it, will be much cooler.
