DNF. Very interesting but a bit too academic for me. I might come back to it. Took a lot of notes.
A great intro and overview and a springboard for further reading.
Almost great - but not quite five stars. It has a commentary in places that is sufficiently emotive as to give the impression of bias (about smokers, her university policy, the government) that makes it seem less objective. Therefore when observations about hierarchies like "The purpose of the upper layers of the hierarchy is to serve the purposes of the lower layers." are made, you are left wondering whether that is systems thinking, or her own ideology speaking.

I really enjoyed this, and I'll probably go through it again. I can see a lot in here that's useful for businesses and managers, and policy makers and enforcers. The discussion of stocks was helpful, especially when thinking about delays in effects. And then leverage points. Lots to think about....

Maybe one of the single most important books written in the 20th Century. If you are at all concerned about bettering the world as we fill it with more and more people, this book will be like that crisp mountain air in early October - the kind that wakes you up deeply and makes you tingle with the burgeoning magic of everything that you are. Not that the book says anything about you at all, which is one reason why I love it.
