A wonderful conclusion to the vampire academy series. I dislike the ending in the same way that I dislike that Flynn Rider cut Rapunzel’s hair, but I can see how it rounds out the story. This book continued from the previous one seamlessly, so this is a very good series to read all in one shot.

This book took me a long time to finish and let's be clear: the only reason I read it was because I read the previous five and owed it to myself to find out how this mess ends. I gave this book a two star rating because I actually have read worse things, but that doesn't mean I wasn't tempted to "abandon ship". In short, it's a soap opera of a book, complete with some poor dialogue, annoying characters, and predictable plot "twists". I am baffled by the 4.5 rating this book currently has on goodreads. I mean...What?! I nearly gave myself a headache from all the eyerolling every time I picked this up.

OK, the rest of this rant is full of spoilers. Even though they really aren't spoilers because all of the "events" are painfully obvious from the beginning.

First of all: Rose. I don't think I've ever ended up hating an initially beloved character at the end of the book series. What a selfish brat! In the final chapters she asks: "Do you think I ruin lives?" Yes! Yes you do! The amount of people she was inconsiderate to, or abandoned, or walked over, all for her own gain is absurd. And after all was said and done Adrian had to remind her about that, while she was all like "huh... haven't thought of that." And then she continued with her most ridiculous breakup speech ever, telling Adrian she couldn't be with him because he was a victim after he repeatedly confessed his love for her and pretty much paved the way for half of what she's been able to do. Wow. WOW. You'd think after that the book would make you see her as a brat she is, but no, all hail Rose - the hero who needs to stop trying to save everyone.

After the supposedly hard breakup... Next chapter: yay, Dimitri - it's all rainbows and unicorns. Oh and Lissa is queen. Shocking.

And speaking of the "honorable" Dimitri, who proceeded to tell her she was beautiful in the cheesiest ways time after time. And then, because he's so honorable he would not talk about it because it's not right, which didn't last long because 10 minutes after telling Rose he won't pursue another man's girl he was ready to sex it up. Classy. And obviously she couldn't wait either - not like she could have postponed the sex until after she broke up with Adrian.

I'm so glad I'm done. The only redeeming quality of this book is Adrian telling Rose to piss off in the end.
medium-paced

usally books get worse as a series goes on, but this is an exeption, it got WAY better and kept the suspense till the very end.

As much as I rated the whole series three stars, Vampire Academy would probably one of my favorite reads. There were just red flags that I didn't like that was going on through the whole series. Especially during the last two books. Rose was a lovable character, with all her wit and undeniable intelligence but her character development on the emotional level seemed to degrade as the book goes on. Unlike Lissa who grew emotionally braver and developed courage and gut. I'd probably say the same with Christian and Dimitri, both guys whom I really love for both female leads. And Adrian...... he who deserves MORE. I like how the story was broken and mended but I really didn't like how one's happy ending destroys the others' endings. Well, probably not yet an ending for them then!! :)
