I loved the narrative structure of this book. The episodic storytelling drew me into each character’s story, revealing just a bit more about the Stranger (the Tramp, the Stowaway, the Guest..) as the world expanded in detail. Every character captivated me. The love story at the heart of the whole shit show stole my heart. I was even morbidly attached to seeing our protagonist get more and more beat down by the world. Such a simple story with such a rich and varied cast, and a familiar but new world. I read this book so fast.

Setting: future dystopian USA
Rep: queer protagonist

This was okay. I found it a bit confusing as there are a LOT of characters and the chapters are more like short stories vaguely connected, some of which I enjoyed, some less so. I found the last few chapters confusing. I appreciate the way Grace Curtis broadly imagines the worlds she writes but I much preferred her second book.

good fun, easy to read but sometimes hard to follow - jumps about a lot and uses different names for the character. i think i could either have been shorter and more focused or longer and more fleshed out. As it stands its a slightly awkward in-between, though still a good story with enough interesting setting and character details to make it well worth a read.
