This was so entertaining! I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting!
I wouldn’t say this is really a mystery or a thriller book. And if you want to categorise it into thriller it’s definitely more the silly and funny type, even though some moments were really thrilling and scary. I understand why so many people might not find it their cup of tea but I loved it.
Both characters are unlikeable. They’re entitled, snobbish and arrogant. They are also both toxic in their own ways but somehow that friendship is also in some ways mutually beneficial so it kinda works even though it shouldn’t. Ellie and Robin have this type of very dependent and toxic relationships you would find in couples who keep breaking up but keep getting back together afterwards and nobody really gets why cuz they’re miserable when they’re together but they prefer that than being apart for some reason.
I would definitely agree that this is really crazy and silly and almost unrealistic but if you’ve spent any time at all on Reddit, you would know that this isn’t all that crazy. Bradzilla Reddit threads is one of the most entertaining things I come across and even if not all of them are true and some are very exaggerated, I’m pretty sure that a big part is 100% what happened and the crazy is unleashed when someone is about to get married. All this to say that this books holds back just enough to make this almost believable.
The story starts of a bit slow with Robin recounting how she met Ellie but also her own personal traumas and experiences as a child and how it shaped part of who she is as an adult and honestly I felt like the character deep dive really helped to understand better the attachement styles both girls had and why they remained friends for so many years despite it being unhealthy.
Overall, if you’re in for a bit a crazy thrilling bradzilla and frenemies rollercoaster, then this is for you!

This book is a satire of the wedding industry and pressure straight women feel to get married, which is such a fun concept for horror. I had hoped since this is told from a lesbian perspective that the themes on gender roles and experiencing the bridal industry as a queer person would be fleshed out more, but we got a lot of Robin thinking she’s above everyone else instead. (Which is part of her character development, but it doesn’t land )
Unfortunately it doesn’t quite hit the mark, the satire is so in your face that it feels like the narrator is just telling you the point. Every character is super unlikable so by the end you don’t sympathize with anyone in the resolution.
Overall I think this would’ve been a great short story and would also love to see it on screen too, the concepts are still really great but it just wasn’t enough for a full novel.
Robin you would’ve loved Good Luck, Babe by Chappell Roan

The storyline was original but a bit predictable once the tension was apparent at the wedding weekend. I didn’t find Robin or Ellie very likable, and the ending was eh.
