I liked it! I think the Dara character as a tortured warrior is a bit of a reach. The prose still aren’t my favorite. The pacing feels more like a television show than a novel, BUT this one felt a little more self contained which I liked

I don’t have a good experience with second books usually, but this was a huge step up from the first book (even though I had a great time with that too). I loved the time jump and feel like it allowed the book to start at a good pace. I was really interested in how the characters had settled into their new roles, whilst waiting/hoping for them to come back together. The links that were revealed had me screaming.

The world is so rich and it was easy to feel as though I was in Daevabad with Nahri. Although, I’m also excited for the new setting revealed at the end. I’m starting the next book immediately, which it is not something I do often.
