Very cute and delightful. It has some dark and difficult moments too. I really enjoyed this as a queer person who was raised Catholic—could relate to some of it. Yami and Bo are such badasses!

I have to admit, though, that I couldn’t stand Yami and Cesar’s mom for most of the book. She was terrible to both of them, but especially Yamilet. And it irks me that it took
her son wanting to take his own life
before she got her act together. Despite my feelings about her, this was a realistic and heartwarming story that I’m sure is going to positively impact so many young (and old) queer people. This representation is so important.

So cute and sweet and fun, without being overly saccharine. YA at its best - yes the characters are teens with "teen" problems, but their problems are relatable and there's definitely something in this book for adults too. Almost a perfect 5⭐ read for me, but some of the conflicts were resolved in a heavy-handed and kind of corny way, which I can forgive because I do think that kind of resolution can be appropriate for teen readers.

A lot happened in this story but it didn't feel rushed or laid on too thick, more like enough to keep me engaged and motivated to keep reading. I'd definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys LGBTQ+ fiction, or who likes YA selectively because they sometimes get annoyed by immature characters.

Glad I read this, it made me cry and laugh.

I really loved the discourse around coming out and how it should always be on your own terms and that we don't owe other people that info.

I also thought the conversations around cultural identity were handled really well.

This book touched on so many difficult issues around race, sexuality and mental health. It did this while also being funny and even quite fluffy at times. I wish I'd been able to read something like this as a young adult/teen.
