Reviews with content warning for Domestic abuse - The Maddest Obsession

Who doesn’t want to read a mafia story where the male lead is an FBI agent, but also works for the mafia, a female lead who goes to the beat of her own drum while simultaneously getting a kick out of messing with said FBI agent… sounds pretty interesting to me.

This book, “The Maddest Obsession”, was the sequel and follow up to the first book in the Made Series, “The Sweetest Oblivion”. This story focused on Gianna and Christian’s enemies to lovers relationship. The cool thing about this story was that Danielle Lori had the book in the past and present, showing Gianna from when she was twenty, and married to Nico’s Dad, to Christian meeting Gianna for the first time. The past revealed not only how Gianna and Christian met, but also how they were always at each other’s throats. The second half of the book illustrated the present (meets up with the first book “The Sweetest Oblivion”, Nico & Elena’s story) and how Gianna and Christian were even years after they first initially met. Over the course of years, Gianna went through many changes from becoming a widow, her getting into trouble, her ex best friend sleeping with her husband, etc. safe to say Gianna had a lot going on. Whereas Christian Allister remained cool and indifferent to everything around him… but not when it came to Gianna.

This was a mafia dark romance book so there were some “unique” instances that wouldn’t normally happen in other romance books such as, Christian unaliving a man who Gianna brought back to her apartment only to make Christian jealous. If you’re not comfortable with mentions of drug abuse, murder, questionable actions made, and physical abuse, then I wouldn’t recommend this book. If you’re looking to branch out into the dark romance genre then this book and the first book in the series is a good place to start. While I’m not necessarily a fan of dark romances, I did enjoy reading this book, and I’m always curious to read mafia books.

If I had to describe Gianna and Christian using one word it would be, chaos and control. Gianna was the type of woman to act first and think things later, which usually ended up with her regretting her actions, whereas Christian was precise with every aspect of his life. Christian didn’t like to leave room for mess, or any interruptions to his strict lifestyle, but Gianna usually caused up a stir whenever she wanted to. In some ways, I felt like Gianna and Christian complimented each other since they were the opposites of each other. Like that saying, “opposites usually attract”. For all his ways in trying to avoid Gianna, Christian was utterly obsessed with her and couldn’t get his mind of Gianna (hence his maddest Obsession).

The progression in Gianna and Christian’s relationship was fun to watch unfold, and finally them both admitting their true feelings towards one another. Especially towards the end, when the big truth bombs were revealed it not only gave more insight into Christian’s mysterious past, but also gave Gianna the chance to better understand Christian, and therefore come to terms with her feelings towards him.

The ending of the book was sweet especially with the epilogue, but even before then I had my suspicions on what was going to happen with Gianna *wink, wink. I would say I enjoyed this book more than the first one, and I officially am… OBSESSED with Christian Allister.
