this was the slowest slow burn ever in the best way and I loved Gianna even though I wasn't that intrigued by her in the first book
i went feral every time Christian casually killed someone for Gianna

Never in a million years did I think I would like something like this or even tolerate it. Ignoring all the cringey moments and misogyny of the mafia world, I enjoyed it.

Yes, it’s not going to be some award-winning literary masterpiece with perfect writing and prose. But it WAS entertaining. The same way people enjoy trashy reality tv. Call it a guilty pleasure, but either way it was enjoyable enough to finish it in one sitting.

The book has a VERY slow start, I personally would have rated the first 75% of the book at 1.75 stars because it’s very drawn out. However, the last 50-80 pages got me hooked and really redeemed itself.

Gianna grew on me over the course of 5 days when I was reading this book. I liked the contrast between her & Christian but I especially loved how she stood her ground against him. The banter, the chemistry and the slow burn romance was entertaining. However, there was still something missing and I couldn't connect with the both of them.

Unfortunately, I found myself pushing hard to finish this book mainly because some things didn't make sense. Maybe I anticipated too much, given the story's build-up. I did feel some similarities between this book & Twisted Love by Ana Huang but at least this book is giving.

This was my favourite bit:
What are you afraid of?”
“Everything,” I whispered, trailing my finger across the starched collar of his dress shirt.
“You’re not afraid of me.”
We were so close his cheek brushed my tear-streaked one when he rasped,
“And, baby, I’m worse than the dark.”
Maybe that was why I felt safe from it now.
