Yes, it’s not going to be some award-winning literary masterpiece with perfect writing and prose. But it WAS entertaining. The same way people enjoy trashy reality tv. Call it a guilty pleasure, but either way it was enjoyable enough to finish it in one sitting.

Fuck me… they were right…
Typically Tension is defined as a strained state or condition resulting from forces acting in opposition to each other and if you think of Sexual Tension it's just adding sex into that definition. However, I firmly believe that If you look in the dictionary for the definition of tension specifically sexual tension it will JUST BE THE COVER OF THIS BOOK… my god it was the literal epitome and so addictive and I want more, please!!!!
Whilst this is a different couple, there is actually an author note mentioning that this should be read after The Sweetest Oblivion, so bare with it and read that and get through it so you can GET TO THIS BEAUTIFUL WORK OF FUCKING ART IN A BOOK! Essentially Gianna is a woman in the Russo family meaning she has to conform to their mafia rules and be a good wife. Half the book is set in the past where she is married to a Don who cheats on her, and then we move to the present where she is married to a grandfather Capo in name only. And whilst the book is Dual POV it’s about 80% Gianna's POV and the remaining 20% is that of Christian Allistiar, a dirty FBI agent who is 9 ways to Sunday OBSESSED with Gianna but can’t touch a woman who’s married to another man.
I absolutely love Gianna and her character. She is a beautiful dichotomy of the human condition where she displays one side to the world and portrays a face of who people believe her to be and who judge her for being this person but is actually living a lie as underneath that farce of laughter, party girl and smiles, she is dealing with panic attacks, men who tell her what she should do and how she should act and never really able to be who she really wants to be.
Christian has problems, is about 1000 walking red flags and everyone knows it because THEY WILL NOT MESS WITH THE MAN! He also is completely and utterly besotted with Gianna and hates her for it, like it's her fault he can't seem to get her out of his every waking thought and desire. He takes Touch Her You Die way way to seriously and just embodies that if you piss him off enough he'll prob shoot you in the face and smile while he does it. He is ultimately a sociopath and has various OCD tendencies as his life, habits and surroundings need to be meticulous and done with perfect precision. This is one of the reasons Gianna affects him so much as she is a walking hurricane of chaos.
Their relationship is a firework or bomb it is just that explosive, hot and so full of snarky banter and have I mentioned the tension between these two??? If I haven't JUST KNOW YOU COULD CUT IT WITH A KNIFE and would have to use one of those electric knives because sure hand strength is NOT GOING TO DO IT!!!
JUST OMG I can't stop thinking about how much I love this and just want to scroll back to the start of the book to page one so I can experience it all over again! The plot, characters and just general vibes were everything that I wanted and needed.
The smut was okay but if you are looking for SUPER Spicy you won't find it in these pages. Their sex is pretty routine-like and borderline VANILLA, if you excuse a few countertop escapades and being held against the wall with a hand necklace... it's generally kink-free.
...Now you might be wondering why if I love this book so much did I dock a half a star...
The Trope Summary:
▶ Possessive, Dominating and FUCKING Obsessive MMC who also is caring and thoughtful ONLY for Gianna
▶ Dual POV
▶ Mafia Woman X FBI Agent
▶ Inescapable Attraction and Tension
▶ Banter
▶
▶ Neighbours
▶ Kinda Second Chance Vibes?
▶
Basically, if you love a Mafia dark romance and haven't picked this up yet I am not sure why because it's almost absolutely perfect!!!
——————————
So I was not impressed with book 1...
BUT EVERYONE keeps telling me that THIS BOOK IS THE ABSOLUTE BESTEST BEST THING EVER in the series and I need to read it...
I just want something dark, dirty and spicy and I hope this gives it to me!
