I didn’t expect this to be a tearjerker. There are so many lovely aspects of the plot of this book and that makes it all the more worthwhile of a read. I truthfully only picked this one up because I saw it said Mary Bennet & was like “isn’t that the sister everyone forgets about?” I love how we just get thrown into the story and the protagonist really sets up the viewpoint of everyone nicely. As she changes so does how you view everyone, which I thought was nice. Beyond that, the story between the sisters, friendships, and love interests were all truly enthralling. It’s not often I am pausing the book to react to something that happened but I did it quite often during this read. I also just found out it’s a series so I will be looking into the other book(s).

My daughter thought this looked like something I would like and picked it up at the library for me. It was a very delightful read! A rare homage to the oft-forgotten sister from Pride & Prejudice, Mary Bennet, this story takes place in San Francisco and feature a protagonist trying to figure out herself and her place in the world. We get a nice romance, but family dynamics and friendship themes are even stronger. Also, there are cute dogs, beautiful costumes, and coffee shop hangs.

This book is less YA romance and way more a study in a young woman coming to find herself. I loved every second of it. Made me laugh out loud, the author has a lovely way with words. A surprisingly emotional book, honestly. This was excellent, one of my favorites of the year so far.

I really didn’t like this book at first. I almost DNF’d in the first 50 pages. The way Marnie was written was borderline insufferable, but I think that’s what the author was going for.

Her anxiety and literary references eventually won me over. And seeing her jealousy of her sister chip away, and seeing the family come together over a tragedy was very heartwarming.

I don’t like how she proclaimed her love at the end for a boy she’s only known for a few months and has been on one actual date with very weird at the end to me, but whatever.

This was…fine. Honestly it didn’t blow me away and it wasn’t completely obnoxious but I didn’t really care for it. I think I struggled the most with the writing. I mean it was a little annoying because she’s always like my stomach is like a volcano and it’s bubbling into my throat and I’m just like girl. I do not need those constant descriptions.

I also felt like the story was kind of bland overall. I liked the sisters and I feel like we would have needed more interaction with them to get a full story. The ending was also super rushed and it felt super cheesy at points especially with Marnie’s big speech.

Overall I just don’t really care and I feel like I needed more Adhira and Whit and not so many inner monologues.
