What a ride this one was! The plotline was something that just brought me in and I wanted even more! The characters were all so different which made this very dynamic. Loved it!

WHAT WAS THAT ENDING?! AND there’s no sequel? JAIL.

This book was addictive. I literally did not want to stop reading & I was trying so hard to finish before I HAD to stop & I’m so glad I was able to! This book hooked me from page one and never let up. It was dark, twisty, thrilling & had the perfect atmosphere created by the writing! Natasha Preston, I was not familiar with your game!! I own like 5 books by her & just never got around to reading them, but now I will have to! It was suspenseful the whole way through & I was on the edge of my seat wondering how this would turn out! & there were still crazy twists even in the end! If the ending was less open I think it could’ve been a 4.5/5 star rating! It was exactly the thriller I needed after having so many slow paced ones!

This book is just like those bad teen horror movies where the characters make dumb decisions and the plot is ridiculous but you still watch it because you kinda want to see what happens?

Honestly, this was sooo bad, but I couldn't stop reading it XD It's fast paced and short, and the torture rooms were interesting to read about. But everything else was bad....Here comes a long list :)

- the characters are so unreasonable and annoying - especially Hazel. But let's start from the beginning - who would, in their right mind, go inside a stranger's car in the miDDLE OF THE NIGHT KNOWING A BUNCH OF TEENS ARE MISSING AND A KILLER IS PROBABLY ON THE LOOSE?

- Hazel was so whiny and irritating. She and Piper are supposedly BFFs but they don't have more than 1 normal interaction in the whole book. They are either insulting each other, or fighting, or crying or just ignoring one another. Also, she was such a negative person - whenever someone said something, she would shut them off and whine about how they are all going to die and there's no hope -.-

- the whole Evan thing is just...ugh. First of all, the insta-love is off the charts. I mean, it took them, what? 10 pages to realize they are perfect for each other and the only ones who could understand what the other is going through? Also, the moment he appeared in the book, I knew what was gonna happen, it was so obvious + every interaction between him and Piper, especially after that
- the mystery is not really a mystery? I mean, we know who the psycho's are right from the beginning, but unfortunately that's all we get. There's no proper motive (they are just described as evil and sick...which is not enough for me), no background story, nothing. They just do bad things and that's that. There was no "big reveal", basically no answers whatsoever. It's like the author was too lazy to think of anything and just left everything so...basic.

- the ending. Okay, what even was that? That has to be the most absurd thing ever. I appreciate what the author was trying to do, but without setting any grounds before it, without giving us ANY hints or bits of info that could confirm this...it just felt sudden, unfinished, not really thought through etc.

For those who want to know exactly what happened and why I'm so mad at the ending ->
SpoilerIt turns out that Evan was actually one of the psychos all along. Piper fell in love with him in the rooms, but when she discovered who he was, she was normally disgusted and wanted to escape. He is completely insane and a murderer, but of course the moment he saw Piper he knew she was Special™ and he wants her to be "only his" blah blah blah insert more cringey scenes here. Then when they are captured by the police, he escapes with Caleb and heads to Piper's house. She, being the dumbest person on the planet, sits in her room alone with the window open....after just barely escaping from a group of serial killers. He enters her room and first threatens to kill her parents, unless she packs her bags and goes with him. Then he starts telling her how he thinks she is just like him. How he knew it, when he was with her in the rooms, that she has the power inside her to do such things, how they could be "a killer couple." And what does she do? She. goes. with. him. He LITERALLY tortured her and her friends, chased her through the woods and threatened her parents...and she just goes with him. It really would've been fascinating and interesting if we got small hints of her disturbing personality, and if the author made her a different sort of character - then this type of ending might work. But just throwing it like that? Makes no sense.

I'm not sure how to feel about this book. Honestly, one of my stupid irrational fears was all wrapped up in a book. This one is probably my favorite of Natasha Preston's. I just was so wrapped up in it. The twists at the end really have your heart beat racing.
