Not my favourite Dickens but still an entertaining read. Considering it's his first novel, it makes me appreciate how he developed as a writer. I think I'll enjoy it more the second time around.

I can only give this a 2 as I went as far as 80% read and just couldn't go on another minute. The book started off so strong and well! It was funny and had me laughing. I was feeling surprised that I was enjoying it so much and so looking forward to more of the same. Then after about chapter 18 & 19, the last times I laughed out loud, it seemed to just go downhill. Some chapters became boring, some seemed to go off on tangents that just did not seem to relate to the story or the characters, and some that just didn't make sense. Just as I would be about to give up, a good chapter would pop up and I'd continue on with hopes that those other chapters were just bumps along the way. But it continued on the same with all the detours and boredom. There were chapters where I just barely gleamed what was going on, enough to keep me going but not enough to make me feel engaged in the story. I finally just had enough. I think this book could have been a really great, funny tale if half of it was deleted.

*2.5* Sam saved this book for me. I almost dnf’d this book a couple times but then Sam says something funny and it helped me keep going. I couldn’t imagine being a women during this time, constantly fainting and going into hysterics sounds exhausting. Not my favourite Dickens book by far.
