Finished this book in a day. After what happened at the end of the second book, I just couldn't put it down. I love how everything wound together in the end. I was surprised by how much I mourned for some characters, some I had barely given a thought to before.

My only complaint is that I wish Rilla and Alistar had ended up together. They just sparked with chemistry!
I almost don't know what to say about this book and the series as a whole. I'm captivated! I loved every second of this series!
The author was great at playing with my emotions. There were moments when I simply hated some of the characters and I wished I could reach through the pages and give them a good slap or shaking. Then other moments when I wanted to console the characters as they went through so many horrible things. By the end of the this final book I was weeping. It's been a very long time since I have wanted to continue crying in my room so that no one would see how heartbroken I was over a novel. It's been about 10min and I'm still reeling.
I think this was the best book of the series. A lot of the character development came to a head and many story lines were finished. For some, the development had to start at the beginning, and while I was glad things turned out the way they did for those characters, I wish it didn't have to happen.
I'm listing this series in my "history-with-a-twist" list because I still have some difficulty placing it into a real world setting or a completely fantasy setting. Vermont was mentioned again, as was Pennsylvania, but then Cardiff came up as a city and I know one exists in real-world England, but I'm not sure about New England, USA. Yes, yes, I could look it up but I've decided I'm okay with not really knowing.
If you've ever been interested in the Salem Witch trials, witches in general, or have read Conversion or The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane (both by Katherine Howe) then you will thoroughly enjoy this series.

At first I was bored and couldn't remember anything that had happened in earlier books, or characters. But it changed, it got better and so intense. I really enjoyed that this one was filled with so much action and drama, and the big finale was quite something different, but so good.
Holy cow. This series is AMAZING and book 3 blew. me. away.
