Graphic novels are not my favorite type of book to read but this was a fun story and lead me to more Dean Koontz books.
In the small town of Pico Mundo, an unassuming fry cook by the outlandish name of Odd Thomas has a special ability; he can see the dead. They can't speak to him but they have their own ways of communicating. After the murder of a small boy, Odd sees his spirit wandering around. It's obvious the boy wants justice. His nanny, an old friend of Odd's girlfriend Stormy, is worried that the killer might be targeting her other charge, a young girl. Odd and Stormy vow to do what they can to help protect the children of the town.
Odd Thomas has come to the world of graphic novels. I like the idea but it didn't work out all that well for me.
I love Odd. He's so good and earnest but he still has that unexpected sense of humor and hope despite all the things he's seen. That Odd was in these pages, I just wanted more of him. I think the format limited him. In the novels, I think my favorite parts are his internal musings and it's got to be hard to bring that through in a graphic novel. There were bits here and there, just not enough.
I wasn't a huge fan of the style of the artwork either. In my ignorance, I'll say it looks like anime. Feel free to correct me nicely if there's a better word to describe it. Whatever it's called, I just don't generally care for it.
The story felt kind of--well, circular. They don't really get much of anywhere. It was the same basic events a couple of times and then a big "surprise" ending that wasn't really a surprise.
I will say that it was nice to see a beloved character from the first book who hasn't shown back up in the rest of them. I also like the title a lot.
And that's really all I have to say. More devoted fans of graphic novels may enjoy this more than I did. I'll be sticking to the regular books from now on.

It was good to get back to Odd's life, even if it was just for a short time. I loved the books and it was nice to see him in graphic novel form. My heart had a little pang knowing that Anton Yelchin is gone, but that's a whole different animal, really. He was still Odd Thomas, but the one in the graphic novel did him justice.
Overall, I liked the story. There wasn't a lot to it, but it was a nice break to step back into his world.

This was really fun and I enjoyed it. It makes me want to read the actual books.
BLUF: Pass on this... This book is for those already familiar with Odd Thomas, but, even then, the plot is lacking.
Plot: This story has your main characters of the first book, Odd Thomas, Stormy Llewellyn (Odd‰ЫЄs girlfriend), Chief Wyatt Porter (Odd‰ЫЄs father figure), and Terri (Odd‰ЫЄs mother figure). Odd Thomas is a 20-year-old manboy who sees ghosts. These ghosts cannot move on from this world until their murderer is caught and/or they have accepted their death. Odd Thomas helps those who have stayed, including a recently murdered young boy. This is where we come in.
The Good: The book is short and sweet. I was looking for a quick read and this was it.
The Bad: This just wasn‰ЫЄt interesting to me. I‰ЫЄm not sure how much of this is due to the format and how much was due to the illogical plot. I mean.. Odd finds the killer, talks to him, and just lets him get away. This is after the police are onto the guy and wanting to arrest him. Excuse me? What? No. That‰ЫЄs ridiculous.
Overall: This passed the time well, but, if you are compelled to read it, I would recommend renting it rather than buying. I was not impressed.

I really liked this. I see people rave about the Odd Thomas series all over, and thought it would be good to ease into it, or just try it out, with no novel committment. It was interesting enough that I will seek out the novels. I don't think we were given enough details in the graphic novel, but at least I'll go in with a basic understanding of his character.
