This feels like the ending of a trilogy. It may have been originally written for that purpose, I don’t know for sure. It’s a great continuation of the characters you’ve come to know/love/hate/etc. If you read Dune Messiah, I recommend you continue and read this!!

I loved getting the perspective of other characters in the Dune universe. Stilgar is my goat for sure.

the story and the characters and all the politics and world building is so cool but sometimes it’s too confusing and dense for me to really enjoy it

4.5 ⭐ Children of Dune
This is the best book in the series so far, a truly interesting and mysterious read.
The story is a fascinating dive into faction power plays, and as a reader, you get to experience the shift away from Paul as the main character. No one is simply good or bad; every character has different goals and motivations, which makes the plot feel incredibly complex. The way religion is woven into the world of Dune remains perfect.
- As always, Frank Herbert isn't the best writer. If the story were written in a better way, it would be so good, but still, we get a big, cool world that we can discover.
Overall (8/10)
This book continues to build on the foundations of the previous ones in a strong and intriguing way.

This book includes all the elements of a great story - lore; new and interesting characters; plots and conspiracies; murders and betrayals; rebirths and possession; basically anything you can think of spiritually, physically, or otherwise. I wasn’t sure how Herbert intended to continue the story after a disappointing second book, but this third book really delivered!
Fast forward 9-10 years. Paul is assumed dead after he walked into the desert in the second book, and Alia, his sister, is now leading the empire while Paul’s two children, Leto II and Ghanima wait to become of age. However, the Atreides being in power does not sit well with everyone. There is House Corrino plotting ways to return the empire back into their hands. Some fremen are disgruntled and wish to return to the old days, ways, and traditions. A mysterious blind preacher is stirring trouble, preaching doom and gloom on the planet. And of course the Sisterhood still has their claws in everything from behind the scenes. Yet even with all these outside enemies, House Atreides has internal power struggles of their own with Alia and the twins conspiring against each other.
I think this may be my favorite book of the series so far. It was very well written and told a fascinating story from start to finish. Even though some of my favorite characters from the first two books were absent here or played a very small role, the new characters and the intricate plot more than made up for those missing elements. I can’t wait to read the next books - 4 stars!

Enjoyable read, I don't have strong feelings about it but the ending had some high-impact scenes. Didn't think it was that weird personally.
