A fun romance with dragons and demons. It's a promising start to the series, and the erotica scenes were pretty well-done. I liked it enough that I'm willing to go and get the next installments of the book, but this one was mostly...fine. I think that the contemporary speak (like "sus") is a bit...much in this book, but that's just a personal preference. What I personally had a bigger problem with was with the way that the author has Cinnamon have the world's most inconsistent and plot-dependent morals. There are so many incredibly violent and gory deaths in this book, which is really surprising for something marketed as a sweet cozy fantasy? And Cinnamon, who has never adventured and is initially and rightly horrified that her demon love interest would traumatically break a man's arm after he hit her, is so fine with potentially hundreds of people dying.
Like, she's fine with a town getting massacred for enslaving demons even though the book makes clear multiple times that humans literally do not know that the demons are sentient because a lich has been manipulating humanity for 600 years. Like, one of the side-characters is horrified once she knows and the only reason she doesn't burn with the rest of the town is because she accidentally overheard the main character's plan to stop the lich. And there's no real reflection on this, it's just sort of fine. And somehow it's unforgivable that someone is angry that she shot his friend in the final battle when she really could have done something to incapacitate this woman in a less deadly way? And it's fine he gets bitten in half???
Again, I'm going to read the next books in the series, because it seems like they're actually going to deliver in terms of the "cozy" part of this cozy fantasy, but the tone of this book is odd.

#23For23 (learn more at: https://www.23for23.net/)

After weeks of waiting, I was finally able to listen to this book through my local library.

Brief Summary: Cinnamon is a bit of a homebody. Well, she does love to go out with her best friend to the local tavern and to the market to sell her spices, but she is definitely, absolutely not someone seeking out adventure. However, one day after celebrating with her friend at the local festival she stumbles home drunk and accidentally rescues, Fallon....who just so happens to be a demon.

After Fallon makes his intention to kill an enemy that is not Cinnamon or her family clear, she is forced to agree to help him. As they set out on their adventure Cinnamon must grapple with her past and open herself up to new opportunities. However, what she doesn't expect is that by doing so she might also be opening her heart.

Thoughts: This book was WILD and I LOVED absolutely every single second of it. Lemming's writing was so entertaining and endearing. Cinnamon was everything I wanted in a main character. She was funny, introspective, kind, feisty, educated, and empowered. The way that she evolves throughout the book is so endearing. I also really loved how Lemming made her a real person. For example, when Cinnamon gets dirty on her adventures Lemming not only mentions that she bathes, but that Cinnamon is very unhappy with the current state of feeling gross. It's a little thing, but I find in adventure books things like that are often glossed over and it makes the characters in a book feel less human. This is just one way that Lemming's writing is so nuanced.

I also enjoyed all of the side characters that Cinnamon and Fallon meet throughout their adventure and Cinnamon's family back at home. Everyone had very distinct personalities and contributed something to the plot and friendship group. There were also quite a few instances where they provided some great comedic lines.

I did enjoy the relationship between Cinnamon and Fallon. It was sweet and entertaining. I do wish that we had spent just a little more time on the development of their relationship. There were a few times when it felt like things were being swept along due to the plot. The times when they were alone together were often steamy, but if there had been a smidge more in the emotional connection, I would not have been mad.

If you love fantasy romance novels or just romance novels I would highly recommend this book. It's heartwarming and entertaining

It’s fun, funny, campy, spicy…

The book does exactly what it set out to do; I had the best time reading it & I’m absolutely listening to the rest of the series

This was delightful. A lot more shifter-y than I was expecting, but I dug it (turns out a lot of demons have a human form but turn into werewolves! Or dragons! Or manticores! While others have just a general form, like lamia. This hasn’t been the area of fantasy I’ve read much of before, so maybe the human-to-____ is more of a thing than I knew). Anyway. Quite spicy, pun intended. I absolutely love Cinnamon, I want her to narrate my life.
LOVE the false goddess is actually a lich premise! It’s simple but turns everything you think you know on your head, plus it answers so many questions that you would likely have in the back of your head as a resident of this world but would have quashed over time.
Looking forward to reading the others in this series - especially intrigued that one has a protagonist named Cherry??

This one DEFINITELY has dragons!

Very quick read, almost a novella. The story rattles along, and is all about adventures and not much else, except for the spicy scenes.

When Cinnamon Hotpepper drunkenly saves a demon from a rockslide then smacks him in the face with a branch of cinnamon, she frees Fallon from the evil lich magic keeping him and other demons trapped as mindless rage monsters. The two set out on a quest to destroy four chalices that protect the lich from destruction. Their journey is made harder thanks to hundreds of years of convincing humans that she’s a goddess protecting them rather than an evil being serving only her best interests. Cin and Fallon gain allies across the land and sparks fly between the two as they try to save all of demonkind.

This monster romance is spicy and surprisingly violent while being super silly and altogether as Unserious as possible. I even did a dramatic reading of select passages for a coworker during our downtime. The romance built well and honestly, the only big minus for me was the weird dip into a city brimming with demon slavery. It felt like since most people seemed to join their side once they realized demons aren’t mindless killing machines, they could have done a little more talking and a little less map-erasing. They hurt you so I must burn this city to the ground only holds so much sway with me before I feel like… okay buddy, calm down. Also the ending scene felt repetitive to me. But other than that I really liked it and I think this flavor of monster romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously works for me. I will definitely read the rest of the series.

Also, bonus points for the detailed content warning from the author at the beginning.

🫢🫣😳🥵😅

I was drawn into this one by my current interest in D&D. I enjoyed the humor and the occasional anachronism. I can definitely relate to Cinnamon's complete lack of interest in adventure, but I'm glad she got dragged into it so I could live vicariously through her 😆

This could have been a 4 star read for me but I felt that maybe some editing for vocabulary could have helped. Some words were repeated from one sentence to another or even within the same sentence, which isn't a big deal but kinda breaks the immersion.

I also felt the story could have used a few more female/feminine characters. The ones who were included were great though.

I can't wait to read the rest of these books. This was so good. Enemies to lovers, fast paced, "touch her & die". Diverse characters, great adventure sequences, and the spice: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
