I mean, you know what you're getting into when you look at that title and cover. I wanted a fun spicy fantasy and that's exactly what I got. I had a great time the entire time, and I'm happy to read more from this series. This is not high brow stuff, I found some of the writing to be clunky and a lot of cliches are used. Part of me itched to do some editing to smooth things out, but I tried to focus on just enjoying the ride. This will also be a bit of a time capsule due to the very contemporary slang used. If you are craving the feeling of reading smutty fanfic at 2am on tumblr, this will hit the spot.

A quick, fantasy adventure. Cutesy, with good plot and spice. I enjoyed the characters. Will read the rest of the series.

Overall, I found this book fun, silly and sexy.

Aside from the smutty parts, this book reads sort of like a D&D campaign gone awry, and I definitely found myself laughing in several places.

I did find myself rolling my eyes when Fallon was declaring his undying love and desire to marry Cinnamon after a whopping three days, and even though this is somewhat lamp-shaded and "explained", it was still a bit... meh.

Also, I loved Fallon, overall, I really did - but he was definitely a bit overpowered for the story. And a touch too willy-nilly about wholesale slaughter for my tastes...

But while I generally really enjoyed this story, and ate it right up, I did want to mention two things that were a little... troublesome?

Cinnamon is clearly attracted to Fallon from the outset, but has some moral qualms about sleeping with a demon, especially a demon who has declared said "desire to marry" when she was still feeling unsure about what she wants and what she thinks of him...

But there's one part where Fallon, despite Cinnamon saying no, starts to tie her up and says something like "let me take away your need to say no" or something, and something about "I'll be your villain", and while he does ultimately get consent before it gets too far, the beginning of this interlude is a little too squicky for me, and I didn't love this part.

The other part was when Fallon burned down an entire town. Yes, the town participated in slavery and yes, I'm sure there were a lot of bad people... but I'm sure there were also, like, children and pets and, dare I say, people who weren't aware that the demons were conscious beings and not just "animals" (because no one had any qualms about it if they were animals)...

And it's not Fallon burning the city down I have an issue with, per se, aside from the above issue of 'not slavers' being caught up in it, but my other issue is that Cinnamon, who is the one often stopping Fallon from randomly killing people, is like, well, they weren't nice people, so I guess it's ok...

Like, she has a second of a moral qualm, but then just rationalizes it aside, never considering, like, children.

So, yes, it's not perfect...

But, aside from those issues, I did overall found it a downright enjoyable romp, in more than one way...

Wowee this book was something! This was my first adventure into the smutty romantasy world.
I want to preface my review by saying that maybe this genre isn’t exactly for me, but I still enjoyed it! If this type of book is up your alley or sounds fun to you, then you should definitely pick it up! It was a grand time & I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

I of course want to mention the content warnings up front. This is very spicy! And there was some gore, which I wasn’t expecting (not my fav).

This book was very fun & not boring in the slightest.
The world is sort of old-fashioned yet the writing is quite modern, but you get used to it quickly. The writing felt a little disjointed from time to time; there’s a lot of slang, but then also random big words that seemed out of place in the more casual writing. Nothing too bad, but it pulled me out of the story a couple of times.

Overall, I had a good time. This definitely kept me entertained and had me blushing at the pool! (Maybe not the best for reading in public lol)

Thank you to Orbit Books and NetGalley for the eARC!

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon" by Kimberly Lemming earns a solid 4-star rating from me. While it took some time to immerse myself in the story, and there were occasional interruptions in the flow, Plus, it took me a bit to get used to the language style. But OMG, Fallon is just brilliantly written. making the narrative engaging and enjoyable.

“I’m your villain today, remember? I don’t need to be nice.”

The story definitely picks up after the initial part. It’s an easy, enjoyable read—a perfect blend of fluffy romance and fantasy. Although there are some rough patches, overall, it’s a simple feel-good story with a not-too-deep plot.

As for the description, spice trader Cinnamon's unexpected adventure with a fiery demon Fallon is both sweet and steamy, and oh-so-funny. It's a rom-com fantasy that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Can't wait to see where the journey takes them next! 📚✨ #ThatTimeIGotDrunk #KimberlyLemming #BookReview #RomComFantasy #FluffyRomance

I thought that this book was okay. The one thing that I look forward to when I decide to read a romance novel is a story. It has to be a good story to capture my attention. Some readers are ashamed to say this, but I decided to read this book after seeing a Booktok review on TikTok. Fallon and Cinnamon’s relationship is cute. The fact that he asked for her consent before he did anything was refreshing. He really respects and loves her. I really enjoyed the story itself and the lore behind it. My only complaint is the fact that the story started to drag a little bit towards the end. Other than that the writing is pretty easy to follow. I would describe this novel as medium paced. This book is worth four out of three stars in my opinion.
