I liked this book. It was a fast and easy read and had some definite YES moments. There were some points Shonda lost me a bit but for the most part I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I truly enjoyed the sentiment of this book and the way Shonda put some parts of her story together. However, about 2/3 of the way though, the book seems to change its tone, started rambling, and seemed to exist just to meet a page count quota. Worth reading, but speed read the last third of it.

I love how her graduation and other speeches are in the audible book. Wisdom and wit. I laughed so much.

I really enjoyed #yearofyes by @shondarhimes ! It was an excellent book to read when in a time of making a lot of big decisions in my own life. It is about her saying yes to things that scare her but are important anyway (eg speaking at her alma mater, taking care of her body, getting rid of people who aren’t good for her). I particularly appreciated her open and honest chapter on her struggle with weight and the way it is hard at times to love your body but still know you need to lose weight for your health. It also has some of her excellent speeches in it, so I’d recommend the audiobook version! I’d definitely recommend this one!

This was amazing. Everyone should read this book. It doesn't matter if you know anything about Shonda. She makes it feel like she's sitting across the table from you at a coffee shop.

Maybe a 4.5 ⭐️. I really, really enjoyed this! For me, this was a story about building confidence, taking ownership of and celebrating your successes and being brave enough to go after what you what in life. I loved all the behind the scenes of greys, but more importantly, Rhimes struggles. I never would’ve guessed a lot of what she struggled with, but it felt refreshing to hear about it from someone who lived such a different/successful life. I thought a lot of what Rhimes had to say was really relatable and important. The writing style is pretty round about, but I liked it. You can feel her confidence pouring through the story, and I get that might rub people the wrong way, but she does address that in the book. I like that she acknowledged her successes. I did struggle with the chapter on weight, just listening to it as a sore subject, but I appreciate her perspective on it. Also, I listened to this on audiobook and really enjoyed her narration of her story. I wish I could’ve seen the pictures though! Highly recommend!

As I didn’t have a fav book of this year, this is one of my Top 10 of 2023! ⭐️
