Another goodie by Mark Edwards. I always enjoy his writing and his stories. I particularly like that they are all centered around regular people.

Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer Publishing for access to this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I found this book to be amazing.

The story is deep and complex, yet easy to follow. The characters are relatable and interesting.

If you love numerous good twists, endless suspense and a whole pile of mystery, this book is highly recommended!

Now if you'll excuse me, I am craving some carrot cake.

Mark Edward’s books are always an easy read and this book is in his usual style , twists and turns and a fast paced page turner. I did enjoy it (and the ending is brilliant !) but there’s something that stops it being a 5 star read for me. It was good enough - but it’s not something I’d recommend to a friend….

The Darkest Water started slowly but gradually the pace did speed up. The story is told two time frames the present day and 1995. There were a lot of characters and I found that confusing at times. I also disliked Calvin, the main character. I did enjoy the inclusion of social media in the story, and the problems it can cause. All in all this was an enjoyable read but it one of my favourites by this author.

Calvin finally owns the bakery he has dreamed about. He lives in a small village in the lake district with his wife Vicky, who runs the local animal shelter and has recent became a viral sensation overnight. All seems to be going well for the quiet and well liked couple. Nearby a reclusive man has been found murder on a local beach and sudden strange things start to occur in Calvin's life. Is his with Vicky right, does he have a stalker or is something much more sinister going on. As things continue to get worse Calvin begins to wonder is there anyone he can trust and more importantly has someone discovered has past mistakes placing him and Vicky in terrible danger?

I loved this story so many twists and turns and completely kept me guessing right up until the end. 100% recommend.

This is an intriguing mystery so far, but change the name from the Darkest Water to the Dumbest Fucking Man on Earth. I’m enjoying it, but I have to say I’m not sure why the author made this choice, but Calvin is the stupidest man on the damn planet. And I have no idea why Tara married him. It’s one thing to be unfamiliar with social media but unbelievable that this man is fucking stupid. He has zero instincts. It’s kinda funny but also infuriating. But it’s a plot device so I’m a go with it. Also, he’s kinda sorta a pussy bitch. Don’t @ me but Calvin is giving straight loser vibes. Not sure why they tried to make Mel a hero and not the loser weirdo she actually was. Regardless of her saving Vicky‘s life, she was still a stalker with no boundaries. And Vicky had every right to want to kick her ass. I said what I said.
