When A Killer Calls follows John Douglas as he tries to crack the case of the kidnapping of 17 year old Shari Smith.
This book was an interesting look into criminal profiling and how it was used to help solve Shari's case. But even more than that, this book is a testament to the Smith family and the diligence to try to find the murderer. I found myself thoroughly impressed with how this story was laid out and told Shari's story.
I really was impressed with Shari's family throughout this whole ordeal. They had to deal with the killer calling them and taunting them about Shari and where her body was. throughout it, the older sister, Dawn, was very composed and did such an amazing job at keeping him talking. She was able to pull things from him that were so impressive and was able to help Debra May's family be able to recover her body as well. It was interesting to see how, with Dawn's help, Douglas was able to create a profile to be able to catch the killer.
If you are interested in criminal profiling and one of the cases at its origins, I would highly recommend picking up this book.
