Loved the idea of this book but not so much the execution. I think if it was a bit longer then they would have been able to go more in depth with characters and plot as they felt quite surface level.
I think there could have been more hints along the way - the Chosen was dropped at the end and felt quite convenient. Actually a lot of the story in the final third of the book felt quite convenient and the story was told rather than shown.

A really good first book for this serie. The world is interesting, I really like the themes, but it was maybe too edgy, with too much gore ? It's 100% a personnal opinion but it was a bit too much for me, I liked the stosy nonetheless but I cannot give it 5 stars because of that.

Daniel's debut novella, Breach Of Peace, is the a pretty good detective story set in a fantasy world. Listened to this as an audiobook narrated by Kate Reading and Michael Kraemer which really gave it a nice character. It's a grim dark story set in an industrial era fantasy world. There apparently is an empire ruled by a God ( that sounds fun). The main characters are three detectives who upon finding a brutal (like off the charts, Joe Abercrombie style, brutal), investigate that murder.

As I understand this like a prequeal to a main series. So let's see where that goes.

What I liked:
- The world in which this is set seems to be something really interesting, which I would really like to see more of, especially the part with God and the Chosen ones.
- The action scenes were really well crafted and conveyed a good sense of what was happening, along with pretty gruesome imagery. Big thumbs up for that.
- Really great idea of a detective in a fantasy world. I guess it kinda takes after The Dresden Files, so I'll definitely have to check that out.
- The plot twist (kind of plot twist I guess) at the end was quite interesting.

Why only 3 stars?
- The characters were pretty much underdeveloped and sometimes a bit cliche. It wasn't too rough but for me this keeps a book from going above 3 stars.

Would I recommend it?
Well yeah maybe. The audiobook, this coming from someone who does not usually listens to audiobooks, makes it worthwhile. I listened to it in a couple of days while doing other stuff.

Will I read/listen to more of his books?
For sure. I like Daniels YouTube channel a lot, that's why I tried this. He has a lot of potential. Yes there is a lot of work needed but I believe he can do it.

*3.5 but 3 seems too low*

Fast paced, really just the prologue of whats to come. I had fun reading it, the foreshadowing threw me off but it was still pretty good. I really like Daniels videos and don't know how to feel about this, I definitely don't LOVE it but it's not meh either.
