**Updating my review**
THE PLOT
Quincy Carpenter is a Final Girl—a term for the lone survivor in a brutal massacre. Told in alternating timelines and POVs, Quincy tries to get to the bottom of what happened ten years ago once and for all.
MY OPINNI
I was drawn to this book by the premise and I had never heard of the term "Final Girl." At the time, this was my first Riley Sager book. Just like [b:The Last Time I Lied|36626748|The Last Time I Lied|Riley Sager|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1511141004l/36626748._SY75_.jpg|57845636], the other Sager novel I read, this one is a slow, descriptive burn that frantically crashes into a chaotic, over-the-top ending.
I enjoy a book that keeps you in the dark, but much of this novel was spent describing "irrelevant" scenes. Some people enjoy this type of "setting-the-scene" writing, and others, like myself, just want to get to the point. I'm just not much for descriptions of people, places, and things.
Anyways. It was a decent enough book with a unique storyline and the twist was GOOD. Maybe it was obvious to others, but when I first read this 3 years ago, I didn't see it coming. I was shocked and disturbed, to say the least. Now that I think of it, if you condensed this book, it could make for a good Criminal Minds episode.
Now that I'm writing this review... I feel that 2.5 stars is more accurate because I did jump ahead a lot to see if it was worth reading on. Not a great sign.
PROS AND CONS
Pros: Interesting storyline, great ending
Cons: S l o w pace (not ADHD friendly lol)

A slooooow book, flat characters, boring conversations and a finale that makes no sense.

I think this was placed in the wrong genre because I was neither thrilled nor horrified. Did I really read the same book everyone else is giving 5 stars?
Relatively dull, very quick ending, weird character motivation, and a twist ending that left me feeling played. Cause where did it come from? Zero foreshadowing or motivation.
And amnesia? Really? (Annoying since I also read A Dark Dark Wood at the same time as this. Both main characters conveniently forgot who the killer was

This was my third Sager book and I am thoroughly impressed! I don’t usually read this type of horror, but it was a great spooky, creepy read for the October season!
