I thought this was going one way, which had me concerned, but then it went a different way and I was pleasantly (and horrifyingly) surprised. I thought the plot was well done and very suspenseful.

People who enjoy thrillers will probably like this book. I found many of the characters' actions and the final twist unbelievable, but that's not unusual for me in this genre.

The writing is good and I liked the slow unfolding of the events of the night Quincy became a Final Girl.

I'll admit, most of the main characters really annoyed me for the first half of the book; I think I just have a low tolerance for most protagonists these days. That being said, by the second half of the book I was very into Quincy's story, and while I wasn't rooting for her necessarily, I was hooked on just what happened that fateful night in Pine Cottage. The other characters really grew on me throughout the novel, although I do think that
Jeff got the short end of the stick in the end. I'm also REALLY glad that Sam/Tina didn't die.</i>

One thing I liked is that I didn't figure out who was the murderer until the reveal, although some of the leaps in logic the characters took were... questionable. There were times where Quincy had a realization by looking at new information and would say something like "It was so obvious now" and then make a WILD leap in rationalization. Those don't generally bother me (especially as an escape room enthusiast) but some of these felt egregious. Overall I enjoyed the book and it had me up until 2 AM one night where I couldn't put it down, so it was definitely engaging. It has some issues but overall, super enjoyable.

Definitely my least favorite of his books.

Things I did like:
•I like the fact that I never know where the book is going to go because Sager leaves the reader questioning everyone.
•I like that there were multiple “main characters”.

Things I didn’t like:
•This one was much darker than the other ones I’ve read—it made my stomach flip flop. I’m learning I don’t like gory books at all.
•The characters aren’t that deep. This was definitely different than previous reads of Sager’s because the main character couldn’t remember what most of the book was based around—which leaves mystery, but also a disconnect for me from the main character.
•Mention of an affair, dependence on meds, heavy alcohol consumption & sexual assault.
•The way Quincy rushes into dangerous situations and how willing she is to go along with whatever, even though it can lead to serious trouble.

I am thoroughly disappointed in the outcome. The fact that Coop had some weird fascination with Quincy that led him to kill everyone but her…? And then to kill the other final girls after having sex with them? Don’t love that at all.

I also don’t understand why Sam provoked Quincy to that midnight park situation where Quincy nearly beats a man to death. Just to have something against her? I just feel like there were aspects here that were sooo careless/not thought through by the characters.

Final Girls had a slow beginning and a quick end. Many reviews complained about the pacing throughout the book, but I think it adds to the chaos and unravelling of Quincy’s peaceful and put together life after Sam’s arrival. The pace picks up as Quincy begins to return the memories of her massacre and the anger and violence she’s hidden inside herself for a decade.

I felt like the twists and reveals were nicely paced and put together. There was enough suspicion threaded that I got the impression that people aren't who they were portrayed as and that Quincy’s memories might be wrong. But the final villain twist caught me completely off guard.

I liked the snippets of Quincy’s memories of the massacre spaced throughout the book until Sam’s reveal and the ending. Each memory lined up with current events in Quincy’s life, while keeping me interested in figuring out what actually happened and why everyone distrusted Quicny’s memory loss.
