Solid read. The story was awesome and the ending was unexpected. I liked how the POV would flip back and forth. It did not end like I thought it might. Will have to read the next one soon.

Good Reads friends will know that I love a good dose of science fiction. This wasn’t the best example of the genre.

It had quite a decent premise of the last remaining humans being on board an Ark ship looking for a planet to settle on.

The one they arrive at was being terraformed by humans generations past and used as part of an experiment to crank the speed of the evolutionary process up to 11 through the use of a nano virus.

Without giving spoilers away things on the New Eden didn’t go to plan making it less than ideal for the potential settlers.

It was OK. Not terrible. Not great. Three stars

I enjoyed this book. It has a lot of interesting themes and ideas. I am especially partial to stories that explore the truly alien and first encounter stories, and Children of Time certainly does that. It was a delight to follow the history of the development of an alien civilization. Although the author did not always convince me that the plot and behaviour of the characters made sense, I nevertheless enjoyed the journey.

The ending felt rushed and disjointed which is a pity when much of the book is so well paced and interesting. Still, I think it is a worthwhile read and I plan to read the next book in the series.
