I was looking for a good bodice ripper when I stumbled across this book so I figured I'd give it a whirl. Similar in apocalyptic theme to The Stand, but this time it's The Doom that ,ills everyone off instead of Captain Trips. More blatant magickal creatures too. The evil is a lot less menacing than The Walkin' Dude in my opinion. I did like the fact that this is book one of a series. Would have loved more of The Stand. M-O-O-N spells you might like it.

good book overall, pacing felt a bit off at points, some descriptions in the book are just unsatisfying, and others great. good story and setting and setup book for the trilogy will be reading the second book

Not your typical Nora Roberts! While there are romantic elements, this is not the usual romance novel one would expect from Nora Roberts, and that was a refreshing change to see her spread her wings a bit. Now I anxiously await book two!!!!!

WOW!! I was surprised by this book. I have never read a Nora Roberts book... (I think?) I am pretty sure I tried and put them down. My Aunt was reading this, and said its a post apocalyptic book, and she think I'd like it. Well I did! I mostly did anyways. The story premise, phenomenal, while delivery was a little.... less impressive.

The book starts out innocent enough, a family gathering, and then some weird things happen, blood is involved, and then all of a sudden, everyone is getting sick. I could have done without the super detailed description of mucus and diarrhea, I almost gagged while reading it. And then, the family spreads their mysterious sickness to like, the world! That escalated quickly. This apparently releases magick into the world. There are fae that are released as well. There are not many people left, the Doom(sickness from earlier) killed about 2/3 of the world population. The only reason I coudnt give this book 5 stars was I felt the prophecy of the one was thrown in last minute.

Nora Roberts skillfully developed a handful of main characters. They all had a purpose in the story--none of them seemed to be in the story just to fill space. Within the first few chapters, I was invested in the characters and in the world Roberts crafted. I really can't wait to see where this story goes!

I work at a library and this book gets checked out ALL THE TIME so I thought I would read it and see what the hype was about. I’m not a Nora Roberts fan, so maybe I’m missing something here, but this book was not good. The pacing is weird, skipping the exciting journey and focusing on the boring pre-journey and post-journey world, and there are things that make absolutely zero sense. Like people sprouting wings for no reason. I get magic. I get magical afflictions. I get the angry earth stuff. I don’t get how fairies fit in this world. Why fairies, Nora? Why? This book is DARK and has a super pessimistic outlook on what normal (non-fairy?) humans would do in a post-disease ridden world. I was pretty disturbed. There is dark magic and then there are bad (bad, so bad, super bad) humans. It’s honestly hard to stomach.

I liked this book - it's just up my alley with the story arcs, the characters and the plot. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series.

Oh, Nora, why has it taken you so long to write post-apocalyptic fiction?
I absolutely loved this book and devoured it in 2 days. Shades of The Road, The Postman and The Gone series, with magic thrown in. This was right up my street!
Can't wait for the next one.
