Adored the first quarter of chapters, the flow of how it all started really pulled me in. Did not know it was a book with magic in it at all so that was suprising, but I liked the magic aspect. Half way through was where I started getting confused trying to keep up with who was who, if I put the book down for longer than a day I’d struggle to connect everyone together- But otherwise I did really enjoy it. The pacing was a bit slow in places but I didn’t find it made me want to put it down so

I very rarely review books, but this one blew my mind. The characters are so deep, so easy to connect with. The book first reminded me a bit of "Dies the Fire" by S.M. Sterling, but quickly took on an entirely different direction. A little reminiscent of "The Host", but this novel entirely stands on it's own. I was so connected to the characters and loved their development and the way all of their stories ended up weaving together. I can't wait for the next installment and would recommend this book to everyone! I read it cover to cover in 24 hours. Fabulous and enthralling.

I’m shocked I hadn’t heard of this series before this month. It feels like if Jericho, The Stand, Fairies (of the sparkling and winged variety), and Celtic Mythology had a baby. But that’s not really a drawback. It’s interesting, a little cheesy, and has a nice plot. Some of the dialogue is very forced. Nobody talks like that! But I still highly recommend this for people who like apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic books.

I don’t know if I’m entering a reading slump or not, but this book became less and less interesting the further I went into the story. I decided to skim the last 25%. I didn’t like any of the characters (except for the paramedic) enough to care.
The most annoying thing about this book was the writing style. Either the author’s first language is not English or they completely missed a round of editing. Sometimes it became painful to read. For ex: Character X: “You did the weather some these last few weeks. You give good weather. We’re not going that far” (Like mate... what?)
Character Y: He started to walk fast, fast on long legs. “I’d have brought you in closer, but I had the Old Blues Eyes moment, and went with it” (???? What the hell is this dialogue ??)
These both come from a single page BTW. It made the reading process very disruptive.
I really don’t think this book’s summary is honest on what the book is truly about, either. If you’re looking for a good Post apocalyptic reading, this is NOT it.

First and foremost this is not a book I would usually read. That is not to say it's bad only that it's not to my liking.
Someone wanted me to read this story with them. I gave it a go. Really tried to get into it. I made it to chapter eleven. I can't keep reading it however and will be shelving it as a "did not finish." I do not care for the writing style. While it is done well I dislike reading three different story lines simultaneously. Most importantly for me though is that the book is not what I would consider a happy story. There are moments of happiness and light. I do not feel they are enough to make up for the over all darkness of the tale.
Over all well written and interesting... Just not a story for me.
