I struggled to get invested in this book and didn’t feel it picked up until around 60% of the way through.

It may have been the audio format, but was difficult at times to know when the narrator was imagining scenarios or if it was actually happening.

I love this because I love Rebecca; I want to be Rebecca. Max is a wet noodle and I find the narrators continual commitment to being accessory after the fact somewhat …relaxing? Hm.

The whole plot rests on a rather ableist stereotype of a character, which does temper my excitement a bit as a neurodivergent and physically disabled individual.

5/5, still no reason to read other novels of the same ilk.

Rewrote my brain chemistry. I thought all of the characters were lovable and relatable in their own way but that's probably a sign of mental illness!!! 10/10 because it's the only book to contain my queen Beatrice Lacy.

This book definitely starts slowly. Events won't start picking up until halfway through the book. However, the payoff is worth it. Du Maurier takes the time to establish Rebecca's presence in Manderley and in the narrative, haunting the narrator and all other characters. Definitely a good book to start with if you want to get into gothic literature but aren't sure where to start. It was pretty easy to follow, save one or two google searches.
