The book was not bad, I was just not into the story at all. The only reason I picked this up was because it was required reading for school. If I had picked this up when I was a full grown adult who appreciated this topic of reading I might have enjoyed it.

Starts well, good story but like other writers of the period Hawthorne just seems to slow to a crawl in the middle. I think some of this might be down to listening to the audiobook, would like to read it physically in the future and see if it drags as much then.

We cannot but be frustrated and at the same time sympathize with the two main characters. We are each the author of our own hell.

Hester Prynne deserved far better than Arthur Dimmesdale.
