The writing is so dry, but the plot was exciting enough to make up for it. I had to write an alternate ending for class, and in my opinion, it's better than the canonical ending. Mine had a grown up Pearl who also wrote an A, but it wasn't for adultery. Instead, she helped and hurt people as she pleased, earning her the self-proclaimed nickname of Ambiguous.

nathaniel hawthorne has never tried to speak to a baby or young child in his life, interesting story but it should’ve been written by a woman for more powerful message, but good writing skills

it was a difficult read in terms of language. it felt like reading a technical paper in terms of not fully grasping what was going on without a lot of effort. good story and themes, just not the most engaging
