I don't like football. I don't understand football. I like John Grisham books. I usually understand John Grisham books. I did not like nor understand this book.

Cute story. I'm not much of a football fan.

With the winning combination of Italy and football Grisham tells a winning little story about a washed up NFL quarterback whose last option is to play in the semi-pro American football league in Italy. He deals with culture shock in Parma, as well as the transition from pampered NFL third-stringer, to one of the few paid players on a team where everyone plays solely for the love of the game rather than big contracts and advertising dollars. I still can't decide if I think the ending is refreshingly open-ended or unnecessarily abrupt, but the rest of the book is solid. Nothing overwhelming or surprising, but I still found myself quickly unable to put the book down.

A quick, entertaining, non-mystery book from John Grisham. Really enjoyed the story.

I'm glad I listened to this book instead of reading it. There is a lot of reference to the football games in the book and those parts were like listening to a game on the radio. I would have given it 4 stars, but there was one loose end that I didn't feel was resolved by the end of the book so I had to go with 3.

I honestly had burned out on Grisham some years ago. One can pinky read so many legal thrillers before that happens. My guy recommended this book to me, though, knowing how I love football. He was dead on right, I really enjoyed this story. :-)
