A good ending to the trilogy!
I’m waiting with bated breath as to what the next trilogy has in store! What is this dark power??

Also the suggestion of hate to love in the next book has me giggling!

For this book there was a lot of characters and a lot of names and not all of the questions I feel like had an answer which leaves them to be covered in future books.

I love this world and the creative magics within!

And I’m excited to see if we hear more about the Ever King!

It’s fun to see such a rich universe weaving together ally kingdoms in the fight for peace but these big battle books have so much going on that it starts to feel frantic. Sure, that makes sense for a war-torn kingdom but it can get exhausting as a reader when there’s little reprieve between major events. I also could not get a great handle on the passage of time in this book; it could have taken place over two weeks or it could have been a full year and I genuinely would believe either.

As we’re preparing to move to a new kingdom and begin the search for our third fated queen, the secrets get deeper and darker. Hidden motives by an unknown force are hinted at by at least two characters but there’s no further explanation so our heroes cannot adequately prepare for what they’ll see in the next kingdom. I also can’t help but wonder if the gang will all get called in to help the next “final battle” because it’s starting to feel like when a main role in a show gets demoted to recurring character and they just try to pop in for an episode or two.

I also felt like Malin and Kase didn’t get much character development here. Because they were “settled” in the last book, this was much more plot focused. I’m curious to see how this kingdom will fare with a guild of thieves and murderers as its royal house.

Content warnings:
Blood, body horror, death, gore, injury, murder, violence, war (on page):
the book has all of these throughout including graphic descriptions of vicious killings. Look elsewhere if you’re not okay with this.

Child abuse, torture (off page):
the guild’s camp is overtaken by the evil royals and those who remained were taken as prisoners and tortured for information, including multiple children. This happens off page but is discussed by characters as they rescue the prisoners and the physical effects of the torture are seen.

Sexual content (on page):
Kase and Malin have sex several times. It is explicitly described in some instances but isn’t vulgar.
