Waaayyyy too slow for my usual reads. I got much further into it than I thought I was, and still had so much more to go, with seemingly nothing real happening.

A simple premise, well executed. Haven't read a lot of horror, but the first 4/5 of the book were a gripping and mysterious paranormal tale. Well crafted alternate history backstory that fits snugly into our timeline. The last 20% changes pace, but suits the established plot and ends satisfactorily, if a little abruptly. 

The main character isn't exactly likeable, but his motives are well explained.

Some characters use antiquated language that befits their persona, but might not be approved by some readers.

If you enjoy found footage horror, this is right up there. Nevill is fantastic with descriptive language.
